Number of persons with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova in 2019

On January 1, 2020, according to the National Social Insurance House, the estimated number of people with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova accounted for 177.0 thousand people, including 10,7 thousand children aged 0-17 years. People with disabilities represented 6,7% out of the total number of population with usual residence, and children with disabilities accounted for 1,9% out of the total number of children with usual residence in the Republic of Moldova.
 
In the structure of people with disabilities, the share of women was higher than the share of men and accounted for 51,7%. At the same time, the share of men with disabilities in the total number of men decreased from 7,1% on January 1, 2016 to 6,7% on January 1, 2020. Instead, the share of women with disabilities in the total number of women increased from 6,0% on 1 January 2016 to 6,7% on 1 January 2020.
