Tips for creating / using maps in the "Statbank" databank

  1. In the databank the option Create map is active only for the tables containing territorial variable - Districts/Regions.

  2. To create a representative map it is recommended to use tables containing relative indicators, e.g. rates to 1000/10 thousand / 100 thousand inhabitants. For example, it is more representative to visualize on a map the birth rates instead of number of births, recorded crimes per 100 thousand inhabitants, instead of the number of crimes etc.
  3. In the case of territorial variable Districts - DO NOT select values Whole country, North, Center or South, because the data for these regions will be taken into account in the distribution of intervals and as a result the map will be misrepresented. If you want to select all the districts - press the button  and holding down the CTRL button deselect Whole country, North, Center or South.
  4. If you select only a few districts (it is recommended minimum 5), the map representation will be displayed depending on the minimum and maximum values only for selected districts.
  5. If an error message appears, go back to the selection of values page and select from each box at least one value.
  6. To create a map it is permitted to select two or more values only for two variables: one containing territorial variable and another as desired, for the rest of the variables select only one value for each. For e.g.:

The development regions are established under the Law no. 438-XVI from 28.12.2006 on regional development in Moldova; these are not administrative units and have no legal personality; are established to ensure the development, implementation and evaluation framework of regional development policies.

Composition of the Development Regions:

  1. Municipality Chisinau
  2. North (mun. Balti, Briceni, Donduseni, Drochia, Edinet, Falesti, Floresti, Glodeni, Ocnita, Riscani, Singerei, Soroca)
  3. Center (Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Criuleni, Dubasari Hânceşti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Straseni, Soldaneşti, Telenesti, Ungheni)
  4. South (Basarabeasca, Cahul, Cantemir, Causeni, Cimislia, Leova, Stefan Voda, Taraclia)
  5. T.A.U Gagauzia

Statistical zones are not administrative units and have no legal personality; in 2005 were constituted four statistical areas (Mun. Chisinau, North, Center and South) to ensure collection, compilation and dissemination of regional statistics outcomes from selective researches on population households on employment (LFS) and household budgets (HBS).

Composition of the Statistical Zones:

  1. Municipality Chisinau
  2. North (districts of Briceni, Edinet, Ocnita, Donduseni, Soroca, Drochia, Riscani, Glodeni, Falesti, Sîngerei, Floresti and mun. Balti)
  3. Center (districts of  Ungheni, Telenesti, Rezina, Orhei, Calarasi, Nisporeni, Straseni, Criuleni, Dubasari Noi, Ialoveni and Hincesti)
  4. South (districts of  Leova, Cimislia, Basarabeasca, Causeni, Stefan Voda, Cantemir, Taraclia and Cahul, T.A.U Gagauzia).

Zones differ from regions by the fact that Soldanesti district is a part of the North zone (in the case of developing regions – part of Center) and T.A.U Gagauzia is a part of the South zone (in the case of regions it is a separate region).

Classifications of data from intervals:

Quantile - Classification of quantiles places an equal number of values in each class. That means that within one interval enters about the same number of districts.

Equal intervals - Classification using equal intervals, divide the whole range of values in the desired number of classes having equal intervals between classes. That means that data is divided equally for each interval.
